Our Signature Cotton Fabrics

The Sturdy Boy™ collection is one of our two bestselling heavy duty 100% cotton fabrics. They are the foundation of everything we produce at Adelene. They stand up to everyday life like they were made for it – because they were.

The design process for the Sturdy Boy™ collection starts and ends with simplicity, longevity, quality, and usability. The fabrics are woven in a 4th generation 100% fair trade mill specializing in canvas in India. A country renowned for superior cotton weaves and magnificent dyeing techniques.

Sturdy Boy™ Collection

The original Adelene fabric (and still our founder’s favorite), was inspired by hefty antique French linen sheets that were both soft and… sturdy.

Sturdy Boy™ is a heavier, heftier, and more unconventional fabric that was designed to complement Sturdy Girl™. It has a denim-like weight and crisp, refined feel to it that you instantly know will be tough enough to handle whatever chaos you need it to.

Most people wouldn’t think to use this weight of fabric for upholstery, but Adelene customers aren’t most people.

The color palette leans more to the classic side, which forms the perfect backdrop for the more vibrant colors used in the Sturdy Girl™ line, as well as our striped and patterned fabrics. Though Sturdy Boy™ Starch continues to be our top seller because it mixes so well with any interior.

Construction

Sturdy Boy™ Collection fabrics are 100% yarn dyed ring spun cotton, based on Army Duck. Meaning they have the tightest of weaves. The tighter the weave, the sturdier the fabric.

Sturdy Boy™ has superior long staple fibers which make for a finer, stronger construction. The more you use and care for these fabrics, the softer they become. The best part is that they’ll never lose their shape! No matter what you (or your pets!) put them through.

Color

Sturdy Boy™ is yarn dyed with high-quality fiber reactive dyes to ensure vibrant and consistent colors that won’t fade.

Which means the fabrics look just as good (if not better) wash after wash after wash.

The Sturdy Boy™ collection color palette was designed to be unexpected. Vibrant, but not too bright. To make hearts jump and whisper, “yes, that one.”
